چکیده

The bioprospecting of secondary metabolites with antimicrobial action produced by filamentous fungi isolated from various ecosystems using agro-industrial residues is considerable importance, since it reconciles the discovery new agents reduction environmental impacts adding economic value to wastes. present paper investigated potential for production alternative media based on corn steep liquor, cassava wastewater and glycerol as substrates in different combinations. From 15 assayed preliminary screening, Paecilomyces variotii UCP 0334, Aspergillus flavus 0316, foetidus 0360, niger 1064 e sp. 74M4 showed higher activity against all tested bacteria. After submerged fermentation containing glycerol, P. 0334 exhibitted greater spectrum inhibition halos ranging 7 28 mm diameter Gram negative positive bacteria regardless culture medium type. It worth mentioning that (CWWG) inhibitory 3 9 mm. On other hand, liquor (CSLG) favored biomass yield fungi. These results stimulate further studies identification characterization selected a view discovering drugs.

Screening of Lovastatin Production by Filamentous Fungi

In the present study, 110 fungal strains of Persian Type Culture Collection (PTCC) including some selected strains isolated in various screening projects were tested for their potentiality to produce lovastatin, a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA reduc-tase), the rate-limiting enzyme of cholesterol biosynthesis. The fungal strains were cultivated in a t...

Antioxidants Potential of the Filamentous Fungi (Mucor circinelloides)

Three important strains of Mucorcircinelloides grown in complete and minimal media for specified period (72 h, 120 h and 168 h) under submerged fermentation conditions were investigated for their potential antioxidants/secondary metabolite production. All mycelial extracts demonstrated effective antioxidant activities in terms of β-carotene/linoleic acid bleaching, radical scavenging, reduction...

Nutritional potential of biomass and metabolites from filamentous fungi

Mushrooms are very appreciated as food in several countries and, besides their fine taste, they have great nutritional value as sources of essential fatty acids, minerals, proteins and biologically active metabolites. By the other hand, nonbasidiomycete filamentous fungi from several genera such as Rhizopus or Penicillium are commonly not associated with human diet. Nevertheless, these and othe...

The fitness of filamentous fungi.

Fitness is a common currency in comparative biology. Without data on fitness, hypotheses about the adaptive significance of phenotypes or basic mechanisms of evolution, for example natural selection, remain speculative. Experiments with fungi can address questions specific to fungi or questions with a broader significance. Fungi can challenge the generality of fundamental evolutionary principle...

Endogenous metabolism of filamentous fungi.

Among the filamentous fungi the rate of the endogenous respiration, which often is a useful measure of endogenous metabolism, usually is high as compared to the total respiration in the presence of exogenous substrates. This feature is not limited to the fungi alone and may be found under certain conditions in bacteria (Dawes and Holms, 1958) and in animal tissues as well (Allen et al., 1955). ...
